This year too talented swimmers showcased their skills in individual and relay events, while their friends cheered them from the stands, holding balloons and flags. This was the first time, students of middle school were given the task of anchoring the entire event. "Students of the senior section are usually confident speakers but it is the middle school kids who falter while speaking in public. That is why we decided to give them this chance to boost their confidence," principal Seema Sapru said.
On July 29, the junior section took part in the competition. Starting off with a beautiful formation, the students of classes I to V displayed great skill and stamina. Dr Vece Paes, the chief guest, was impressed by the talented little ones. Games were also organized for the juniors. "The games gave a chance to those kids who couldn't get selected for individual events," said Gargi Dutta, sports teacher of the school.
On May 30, it was time for the seniors to make a splash. Sanjay Agarwal, trustee of the school, was the chief guest. After an impressive water ballet, the students of four teams namely, Chanakya, Patanjali, Dronacharya and Aryabhatt put in their best. Combined events where girls and boys competed against each other were also part of the competition. Ex-students of the school were also not left out as they were roped in to compete against the present students in a relay.
At the end it was jubilation time for the Patanjali team who emerged winners after bagging the maximum number of medals.
"Swimming is one exercise that helps you to lose weight, keep fit and is relaxing at the same time. You can carry on with it till you are, say 75. So we have always encouraged swimming in school and this is one event which gives a platform to our young swimmers for showcasing their talent," concluded Seema Sapru.
